Special Delivery certificates and news updates
It was a joy to visit Pakefield Primary School yesterday, to present certificates to the children who took part in Special Delivery last term.
More than 450 children and staff watched the film, Special Delivery in Pakefield, after which the children talked about their experiences of being part of the project.
“It was like we sprinkled some small seeds into a pot,” one young participant said, “and then it grew and blossomed into something lovely.”
The children talked of their excitement at visiting the Suffolk Archives in Lowestoft, and of making new friends with residents at Hildesley Court.
Just as we were about to finish, one child stepped forward, saying there was something else she wanted to say.
“If you ever get the chance to take part in something like this,” she urged her fellow pupils, “do it, even if you don’t know what to expect, just do it – it was such fun.”
Each child received a certificate and a Special Delivery Newsletter – and then they gave me something … some new Special Delivery Newsletters, that they had made.
Two of the children had created their own newsletters, using images and text taken from their Quest to the Suffolk Archive, and with drawings and stories of their own.
Later that day, I took them over to Hildesley Court to pass on to the adults … and how thrilled they were to receive them. They promised they’d write back soon – and I’m sure they will.
