What we do do …

With the Extra Time Kit Bag full of footballing memorabilia and poet Dean’s writing pad at the ready, we visited Manor Farm Care Home in Kessingland, to meet the residents and find out about the sort of sports they played.

From long distance running to a quick hop, skip and jump, by way of dancing on a Friday night (complete with eyebrow pencil seams up the back of her nylons) and listening to virtuoso performances at the Albert Hall – the stories were colourful, entertaining and illuminating.

There was an imaginary game of tennis and an impromptu tune, as well as expressions of sympathy for anyone having to wear the heavy leather football boots on loan from Lowestoft Museum.

Along the way, we discovered several things that people ‘do’, and one or two that they ‘don’t’ – all of which are celebrated in Dean’s poem.
