Gold medals and cracking goals

It’s Spring!

The dining room at Manor Farm was bathed in sunlight and the residents added to the glow as they painted the clay medals they made last week.

To make the job easier, we used a variety of brushes, rollers and dabbers, which were put to good use not only on the medals but on the surrounding paper, as well.

To our delight, Dave brought in his finished painting of a football scene – featured at the top of this post. It’s so full of movement and detail, it’s absolutely beautiful and I’m sure the children will love seeing it, when they visit next week.

It being World Book Day, our regular group of pupils had been replaced by an array of ninjas, princesses and Hogwarts students, to mention but a few, whilst amongst the staff I spotted at least two Snow Whites and a very, very blue wig; hopefully, the face paint will wash off easily.

After a little explanation about their book character, the children chatted about what they’d learned from Mandy last week about Suffolk Archives, after which they finished off their artwork.

Several children became ‘roving reporters’ for the session, quizzing their classmates about highlights of last week’s session and photographing their work.

Below is just a small selection of those images – and a rather threatening sporting headline in which terrible revenge is taken on a hapless goalie.

‘My highlight [last week] was seeing how engrossed all the children were when learning about their rich heritage.’
‘My highlight was learning about football history.’
