Pakefield Postcards
It was an afternoon of postcards and bunting at Pakefield Primary school with the Year 2 children.
We sailed through the photographs from Suffolk Archives, showing Lowestoft in its Victorian heyday as a successful seaside resort.
After that, we chatted about what brought visitors to the town now; obviously, the First Light Festival was a major reason for tourists and residents alike to celebrate being in Lowestoft.
The children set to, writing invitations to family and friends and then decorating their postcards to create seaside scenes. They were so excited and pleased with what they made and really enjoyed showing them to the class and explaining their different ideas and techniques.
Before we left there was time to make some seaside bunting. The children loved looping the different colour fabrics to the tape and were amazed by how effective the bunting looked – particularly when they made the sounds of the waves on the beach as we waved the bunting in the air.
Finally, we gave out copies of our Bunting Activity Guide, for the children to share at home and in the school so that that everyone can make some bunting to garland their gates and festoon their fences for the First Light Festival Parade.
