Suffolk Artlink declares a climate and ecological emergency
We at Suffolk Artlink care passionately about the environment and climate change.
Over the last twelve months staff Miles, Kasia, Lucy and trustee Alice have led on discussions and actions to help us at Suffolk Artlink reduce our environmental impact and promote environmental awareness and engagement through our creative programme. For example, our Wild About Kirkley programme includes foraging walks and community gardening from which it was a short step to talking about soil health and even testing our garden soil thanks to our friend Prof. Brian Reid, a soil scientist at UEA. (Soil and the creatures living in it are just amazing!)
At our staff meeting on Monday 21st November 2022 we discussed Culture Declares, a voluntary movement for people working in arts and culture who are concerned about a climate and ecological disaster.
We feel it is important to join with others, to learn and act differently. At a time when there are so many challenges there is a danger we may falter in tackling climate change. Together our voice is stronger.
The climate disaster is not in the future, it is happening now with devastating impact in places such as Pakistan where millions of children are now at risk.
