There’s a lot of everything out there
We gathered at Manor Farm to finish off the football games and create the players – but first there was the small matter of coming up with a name for their team.
They chose an absolute cracker, or rather a ‘craker’, as in the Manor Farm Corncrakes.
As Dave explained, they are the Manor Farmers, and there’s lots of corn grown round those parts. Add to that the fact that corncrakes have a great football call – as in loud and penetrating – it seemed the perfect choice.
Colouring their wooden football players and sticking magnets to the bases was quite fiddly and required a lot of focus, but the team’s all ready for next week’s match against the Wild Kessingland All-Stars – I reckon it’ll be quite a game.
Over at the school, the children warmed up by tying themselves in knots as they created a wool net across the room.
The serious work of colouring their players began and at times you could almost hear a pin drop, as the children concentrated on their figures.
And then, with magnets attached and fans glued in place, they had a few trial matches in preparation for next week.
Playing on behalf of the Archive All-Stars, post-match headlines included ‘Chaotic Waves Lose Championship’, ‘Waves Crash onto the Pitch’ and ‘Terry Butcher and the Co-Op Ladies – there’s a lot of everything out there’.
