Home is …
Enjoy our simple step by step Create guides devised by professional artists and foragers for Friends Around the Table. Absolutely no experience is necessary, these activities are accessible for most people and can be undertaken in your own time. We enjoyed this one so much that we included it in the activity boxes activity boxes for groups to use with or without a group leader. We hope that people beyond those taking part in Friends Around the Table can also enjoy these.
Each guide welcomes you to explore food and nature in new and exciting ways to bring some relaxing and creative activity to your day. Once you have had a go, why not share the skills you have learned with a neighbor, friend or family member!
In this exercise we will be looking at all the things we associate with our home. Arji Mamielpillai was inspired to create this plan because he read an amazing poem by the Somali Poet Warsan Shire. She wrote a poem called Home which opens with the powerful lines:
“no one leaves home unless
home is the mouth of a shark.”
this was a powerful reflection of her life as a refugee fleeing for her life. However, in our poem we are going to reflect on our own homes. The tastes, sounds, sights and feelings in our homes. They could be true to your life but they could also be made up. It really is up to you.
