Loose Parts Play with artist Sophie Fox

This online session is aimed at artists, musicians, early years educators and practitioners (and anybody who is interested in discovering the joy of playing with loose parts!)

Artist Sophie Fox will share their love of offering open-ended loose parts as provocations for creativity and sound play in early years sessions, drawing on her experiences in settings and in the community.

During the session we will explore what we think of as loose parts and also what we might not think of as loose parts.

Sophie will explore established theories of loose parts and pedagogies of improvisation. We will also consider ways to offer Loose Parts, and what the adults roles might be to support children’s Loose Parts play. She will share examples of processes/events/encounters with loose parts and also offer playful activities during the session as a way to reflect on shared experiences together.

Sophie is a Director and artist at Magic Acorns – she has been working in community arts and early years arts for over 20 years. During her Masters in Early Childhood Arts and Music Education Sophie explored the notion of music and sound as loose parts. She trained in visual arts and works in multi disciplinary ways – drawing on sound, performance, design, installation building.
